25. Aug – 15. Sept 2024
Zündorfer Wehrturm, Cologne
Ute Wennrich
Rosa Quint

On the Road … is the title Ute Wennrich and Rosa Quint chose for their joint exhibition. Being on the road, travelling, encountering the new and the unfamiliar is - as for many artists – is an essential source of inspiration and stimulation for Ute Wennrich and Rosa Quint.
As the exhibition shows, this collaborative approach leads each one of the two artists to very different forms of expression and results. Although both work across disciplines in surface as well as three-dimensional terms, Ute Wennrich's focus is clearly on sculpture and installation, whereas Rosa Quint's is on painting and graphics, which she implements in different techniques and varying media.
On the way ... from Berlin and Munich to an artist residency in Umbria, where the two of them first met in 2018. Since then, they have been engaged in a loose artistic exchange and have been working together on various exhibition projects.

For Rosa Quint, the artistic exploration of spaces and paths is a crucial aspect of her pictorial approach. From this point of view, travelling, encountering and experiencing the unknown and the new, assume particular significance. Sketches, notes and collections on site are the basis of her spatial explorations and flow into the compositions as well as memories and impressions. Rosa Quint is not concerned with realistic reproduction, but rather traces atmospheres, sublime relationships of colour and form, chromatic nuances - the singularity and often the insignificance of a place - a kind of personal mapping that subjectively reinterprets places, spaces and paths.
Ute Wennrich also draws inspiration and ideas for her sculptures, pictorial objects and installations while on the road and travelling. Her early crossing of the Sahara is particularly worth mentioning here, the impressions and experiences of which have had a long-lasting effect and are still influencing her artistic work to this day. The artist’s special concern is to make spaces tangible, that is to place objects and installations in such a way that spatial references can be created, emphasised and discovered. Different ways of dealing with material and its reinterpretation is a focal point of Ute Wennrich's artistic work as well. Her filigree objects, assembled from tiny glass beads, are examples of this free and open approach to material. Placing this material, the beads, in new contexts changes our way of perceiving them.
Both artists refer to their experiences and impressions of being on the road, without any documentary claims, and translate them very freely into their respective visual language.
